Advanced Placement Courses at ADHS
Selecting AP Courses for the 2008-09 School year:
At Athens Drive, we value the experience that Advanced Placemenmt Courses offer to students. AP Courses offer a rigorous curriculum at a level that helps students develop critical organizational, comprehension, and critical thinking skills that are essential. In 2008-09 school year, students will take AP courses on an A/B schedule, which means that students will be asked to select 2 AP courses that will be taken on alternate days for an entire year. This structure encourages more participation in AP courses and offers more time for critical skill acquisition and time to manipulate the concepts of the curriculum to give students the most valuable AP experiuence that they can have. In addition, students will have longer to prepare for the AP exams, which are given in May. For the 2008-09 school year, the following AP pairings are offered:
Students should note that these classes are scheduled for a specific period as indicated below (These could change to accomodate the Master Schedule).

Preparing for AP Courses in the Future: What you can do now:
9th Grade:

Take the most rigorous courses that you feel you can handle.

If you have not taken an Honors level course in Middle School, now may be a good time to take an Honors level course. Consider your strengths, and select honors courses particularly in Social Studies and English

Be prepared to work hard, to read more, and to write frequently.

Seek out help if you feel that you are falling behind.
10th Grade

Take the most rigorous courses that you feel you can handle.

Consider taking an honors level math or science course if you have not done so already

Be prepared to work hard, to read more, and to write frequently.

Seek out help if you feel that you are falling behind.

Register to take the PSAT as a sophomore. You will have to pay to take the PSAT, but the PSAT is a good indicator for future success in AP courses.
